Supper at La Terrasse, Orchard Hotel (11-May-07)

We went for a late evening porridge supper at La Terrasse, Orchard Hotel as it is open until 01:00. It's on the second floor, the same level as the excellent Hua Ting and overlooks the lobby. If you like listening to lounge singers belt out 80's classics this is a good spot as you can hear every reverbed note from the lounge downstairs.

The restaurant had plain, brown rice and sweet potato porridge as well as a chef cooking fresh Cantonese porridge on the spot. The spread included peanuts, salted fish, you tiao, spring rolls, tofu, kong bak pau, braised duck, herbal chicken, yee fu noodles and others. Dessert was almond jelly with an interesting combination of oranges and longans, hot red bean soup and cut fruits. The Cantonese porridge was good but too salty and we needed to drink a lot of water with it.

CC, KP, PL, MS, VW were there and SS joined us as he was travelling through Singapore. The dinner came to $19.65 a head.

Would I come back - Yes, it's one of the few decently priced, air-conditioned places open until late.
Service - OK nothing to complain about. Dishes were cleared promptly.
Food - OK, not great but passable.

I did recall someone mentioning that the porridge was too salty.
